Holy Trinity School students in Grades 6 to 8 raised their awareness of global hunger issues by participating in a Junior High "Hunger Banquet," organized and hosted by the school’s Service Club. The club, under the direction of Ms. Nancy Hecker, has been working for six weeks to educate themselves on the issues relating to world hunger: surplus vs. waste, the disparity of resources, and the circumstances that can catapult a family into extreme poverty. The scripted activity was based on Oxfam America's Hunger Banquet model. Oxfam is a global organization that works to raise awareness of the injustices of poverty and to seek solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice worldwide.
To wrap up their ELA unit on the Middle Ages, Grade 7 students enjoyed a Medieval feast in Mr. McCusker's class. In preparation, the students each studied monologues or dialogues from the book Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!, a collection of poems and narratives in the voice of Medieval villagers. The costumed students performed their pieces then enjoyed a celebratory feast!
Kindergarten celebrated Thanksgiving as a class, showing their gratitude in song, with Thanksgiving-themed crafts, and in prayer. Together, they enjoyed a feast of all traditional Thanksgiving foods and shared what they are most thankful for.
A huge congratulations to Holy Trinity School 8th Grade student Joseph Loeffler, who won a 2018 Connelly Foundation Neumann Scholarship! Students like Joseph who excel on the Neumann Scholars exam are awarded four-year scholarships to the Archdiocesan high school of their choice.
Holy Trinity School's 5th through 8th Grade students were visited by four-time author Lauren Magaziner, who spoke to the students about the writing and revision process. She gave them pointers to help them with the task of editing their writing pieces - tips she uses as a professional writer. Thank you to Mrs. Raudenbush for coordinating informative and interesting author visits for our students throughout the school year!
Congratulations to the Holy Trinity School students and PREP students who were part of the 2018 Confirmation Class! May the Holy Spirit continue to watch over and guide you always.
What better way to learn about one of our nation's great states than to build a float celebrating all things representative of that state!? That is exactly what our 4th and 5th Grade students did to demonstrate what they learned in their Social Studies unit on the 50 states. The costumed students processed through a parade route populated by their families, fellow HTS students, school staff and administration who waved American flags and cheered for their favorite floats. After the parade, the students individually presented their state facts to a panel of judges. What a terrific learning experience for our students thanks to their Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Pirraglia!
For the first time ever, Holy Trinity School is entering the annual Peddler's Village Gingerbread House Competition and Display! Under the guidance of PreK-A Aide Miss Samantha Glitz, our 6th Grade students worked together on the gingerbread design: a recreation of Holy Trinity School decorated for Christmas! The Gingerbread entries will be on exhibit in the Village Gazebo during shopping hours from November 16 through January 5, 2019. Admission is free. If you are strolling through Peddler's Village this holiday season, please be sure to stop by and vote for our entry!
